Moving on. Again.

We moved to our little seaside cottage three years ago. I love it here in Machrihanish. At night I can lie in bed and listen to the waves crash on the shore, a two minute walk fro the house. We are blessed with a rich variety of wildlife on our doorstep. So why do we have it on the market and are moving to Glasgow? Ah, it’s both complicated and very simple.

My health has got a lot worse since moving here. I’m no longer able to go for the lovely beach walks I so enjoyed. My daughter will be moving to London before too long and we will never see her if we stay here in this beautiful but remote corner of the world. Travelling to here from Glasgow is almost as long as getting to Glasgow from London. My mum’s health is failing and visiting her in Aberdeen is very difficult for me. So, putting on my sensible head, moving back to the city is the only logical option for us.

Our cottage is lovely. We have spent a lot of money on it since we moved here. We carpeted and decorated throughout and we replaced the kitchen in 2015. We have zero crime, quiet neighbours and a large garden. it’s perfect for families and retirees. It would make a wonderful holiday home and the rental market is buoyant here. Machrihanish is popular and there is a shortage of good rental properties in the area. I see many pleas for rental properties on the local buy/sell pages on Facebook so it would also make a safe investment for a buy to let landlord.

You can see the inner Hebrides from our bedroom window and there is a colony of seals just along the beach and a bird and wildlife hide up at the Gauldrons, less than a mile away.

You can see the house on Zoopla and I am happy to answer any questions you might have if you are seriously interested. I have had a few time-wasters too, so please don’t ask if you’re not interested. And if you felt like sharing this post, I’d be eternally grateful.

Thank you.

That cottage really is lovely, Nettie! I can see why you like it as you do. I hope you’ll find a buyer for it very quickly, and that you’ll love the new place you find.

It’s always sad to leave a beautiful place one loves but it’s also very difficult to live far from the family one loves as well. Life is just filled with twists and turns, isn’t it?

As my dear old mum used to say, it’s just as well we don’t know what’s in front of us!
      Thanks for commenting, Karen.
